Deutsche Post could save up to 140m euros annually by outsourcing the entire parcel delivery in Germany. This figure arises from a report prepared for a meeting of executives which was made available to daily newspaper »FAZ« (25.08). The report which was marked as 'strictly confidential' includes several alternatives. By outsourcing the entire parcel delivery, Deutsche Post could reduce its costs by around 140m euros.
Due to the current labour agreement, Deutsche Post may use so called 'service partners' in only 1,000 of the 6,800 delivery areas in 2011. This number is supposed to double the following year according to the confidential document. In an initial response communications union DPV said that the 'increasing outsourcing endangers 7,000 to 8,000 jobs at Deutsche Post'. Union ver.di announced its resistance to these plans and prepares for a possible conflict.
